Employee Training

Fiore implements a comprehensive training program on the hazards and exposures common to the scopes of work performed by our crews. These include the usual suspects: OSHA, MSHA, and DOT, and First Aid + CPR, which are compulsory for all our field staff. These trainings are accompanied by Leadership, Health, and Wellness subjects for certain field employees, which encourage both personal growth and team building.

Employee Wellness & Safety Committee

We are committed to the safety of our employees through the development of innovative, varied layers of safety. Fiore & Sons, Inc. has an EMR that is 46% lower than the industry average. Our Wellness and Safety Committee shares concerns communicated through our SULU and Near-Miss Reports, acting as a voice for our employees by representing these concerns through peer groups with managment. The Committee regularly discusses concerns from our “boots on the ground” with leadership, recommending actions for change and improvement. A primary charge of the Committee is to remain informed of relevant health and safety issues as they apply to our industry. Their extensive findings are shared with the whole team and needed remedies implemented across all affected departments. Committee members meet monthly outside of normal work hours for a one-year term. Each member nominates a peer to take their place at the end of their commitment.

Authority

Stop Work Authority

Every Fiore employee is given the authority to stop work on any jobsite at any time, should they see a threat to any worker’s safety. AFter giving the appropriate signal, the affected team stands down, meeting immediately with their immediate supervisor to discuss the issue and make a game plan to move forward safely. All team members must agree to the plan before restarting the work. This is the most powerful “tool” our employees have at their disposal every day.  The true benefit of utilizing Stop Work Authority are the process and communication improvements that affect both quality and production efforts alongside safety.

SULU (Speak Up Listen Up)

This policy can be summed up in one directive: If you see something, say something. The Fiore team believes strongly that each one of us has an obligation to look out for one other. SULU (Speak Up Listen Up) has proven invaluable in preventing incidents over the years, and is a simple and effective means of showing care and concern for both your coworkers and the successful buildout of each project we touch.
