SULU (SPEAK UP LISTEN UP)
This program encourages and instructs employees on how to effectively and professionally speak and communicate with each other should a work/personal matter or safety situation arise. As a peer-to-peer communication model, SULU has proven invaluable in preventing incidents. As part of the Fiore Family, looking out for one another on and off the job is greatly enhanced through better communication. SULU is a simple and effective means of showing caring and concern for each other.
STOP WORK AUTHORITY
Every Fiore & Sons, Inc. employee is encouraged, empowered and expected to stop work on any jobsite should they foresee a threat to any worker’s safety. The team working in the area of concern stands down with their immediate supervisor to discuss and make a game plan to move forward safely. All must agree to the plan before restarting the work. This is the most powerful “tool” our employees have at their disposal every day. A true benefit of utilizing Stop Work Authority results in process and communication improvements that benefits both Quality and Production efforts as well as improving Safety.
EMPLOYEE TRAINING
Fiore & Sons, Inc. put in place a comprehensive training program on the hazards and exposures common to the scopes of work performed by Fiore & Sons, Inc. OSHA, MSHA, and DOT compulsory training is accompanied by Leadership and Health and Wellness topics for the comprehensive program. Training provides for both personal growth and team building.
EMPLOYEE WELLNESS AND SAFETY COMMITTEE
The Wellness and Safety Committee shares concerns and acts as a voice for employees by participating in a peer group for management. The Committee also regularly discusses concerns from our “boots on the ground” for action by supervision and management, shares information on draft policy as procedure changes and discusses Root Causes of recent incidents and accidents. A primary charge of the Committee is to stay abreast of relevant health and safety issues. Their vast number of findings are shared and remedies are implemented across all departments. Committee members meet monthly outside of normal work hours for a one-year term. Each member nominates a peer to take their place at the end of their commitment.
